Pz.Jg.Abt. 25 и Pz.Jg.Abt. 18

Приветствую.

Until May 1942 Pz.Jg.Abt. 18 of the 18. Inf.Div.(mot.) was officially authorized to have 3 towed a/t gun companies, and actually was equipped accordingly. During the month official organisation changed to 2 towed a/t guns and 1 s/p gun companies. Evidence is a bit conflicting but apparently six Marder III (7,62) were soon delivered. All were lost again during the winter of 1942/43 and and not replaced. Pz.Jg.Abt. 18 was back to 3 towed a/t companies again, although in early 1943 it may have used for a short time several T-34 'Beutepanzer' taken over from the former 9.(Pz.)/Radf.Sich.Rgt. 3. Anyway, records show that from 1943 until May 1944 it remained a towed a/t unit with 3 companies. During May a 4th company was added equipped with towed light Flak guns.

Status of Pz.Jg.Abt. 18 (18. Pz.Gren.Div.) as of 1.6.1944:

Stab Pz.Jg.Abt. 18
1. Kp. (1 - 5 cm Pak, 2 - 7,5 cm Pak 97/38, 4 - 7,5 cm Pak 50)
2. Kp. (2 - 5 cm Pak, 7 - 8,8 cm Pak 43)
3. Kp. (2 - 5 cm Pak, 7 - 7,5 cm Pak 40)
4. Kp. (12 - 2 cm Flak mot.Z.)
As towing vehicles the Abteilung had mostly trucks, a few unspecifed Zgkw. of the 1 - 5 t category and 1 RSO available. In addition it had a single Sd.Kfz. 251 as armored ambulance.

By May 1942 Pz.Jg.Abt. 25 of the 25. Inf.Div.(mot.) had officially been reduced to 2 towed a/t gun companies only. I could not yet establish exactly when, but sometime during the second half of 1942 or in early 1943 at the latest a 3rd s/p gun company and a 4th light Flak company were added again. The s/p gun company (3./25) was equipped with the Marder II (7,5 cm). This organisation basically remained the same until April 1944 when efforts were initiated to convert the 2./25 to s/p guns also.

Status of Pz.Jg.Abt. 25 (25. Pz.Gren.Div.) as of 1.6.1944:

Stab Pz.Jg.Abt. 25
1. Kp. (6 - 8,8 cm Pak 43)
2. Kp. (2 - Marder II (7,5 cm), 4 - 7,5 cm Pak 40)
3. Kp. (11 - Marder II (7,5 cm))
4. Kp. (6 - 2 cm Flak Vierling mot.Z.)
Four more Marder II (7,5 cm) were shipped to the unit during late May 1944 and another two during early 1944 but I'm not sure that the latter two ever reached their destination.
As towing vehicles the Abteilung had unspecified Zgkw. of the 1 - 5 t (~ 16) and 8 - 18 t (~ 4) category available.
