"What Kurita witnessed was the Johnston being hit at 0727, and the Yamato's main and secondary battery were responsible for her damage. (The Hoel would be fired upon by the Haguro, not the Yamato.) The range between the two ships was estimated to be 20,313 yards. BuShips estimated that the trajectory of the shells through the Johnston had an 18° angle of fall, which they estimated for a 14-inch projectile would be at a range of 21,000 yards. The Yamato's range of 20,313 yards with an angle offal! of 17.5° for Yamato's 18-inch shells. BuShips also calculated the bearing of the shell h its one through six as all coming from 190° relative which points directly back to where the Yamato was located and also means all six shells came from the same ship"
