DESCRIPTION: The SGF (ВФ: "Second Gen. FLIR) is a fully integrated engagement-sighting system designed to provide the gunner and tank commander with improved day and night target acquisition and engagement capability. The heart of the system is the NV-80 "B-Kit" which consists of infrared optics, an infrared focal plane array detector, and associated analog and digital electronics. This B-Kit is common across a variety of host vehicle applications. Modifications to the host vehicle fire control systems are necessary. B-Kits are referred to as the A-Kits, which include such items as head assembly, displays, interface electronics, brackets, and connectors. Each A-Kit is unique to the platform type involved. The SGF-equipped CITV provides an improved hunter killer capability. The SGF is a variable power sighting system ranging from three or six power (wide field of View) for target acquisition and 13, 25 or 50 power (narrow field of view) for engaging targets at appropriate ranges (ВФ: мля, 50х увеличение!!! The SGF digital architecture provides significant growth potential over the 1st generation thermal imaging systems in target acquisition and tracking capabilities.
·The NV-80 B-Kit consists of two major pieces: the Sensor assembly and common Electronics Unit.
·Allows 70% faster acquisition, 45% quicker firing and greater accuracy.
·A detector/cooler assembly will be utilized, which includes a two-dimensional focal plane array and a cryogenic cooler.
·A gain of 30% greater range for target acquisition and identification will increase lethality and lessen fratricide.
STATUS: SGF will be incorporated in Gunner’s Primary Sight and Commander’s Independent Thermal Viewer for the entire 1174 M1A2 SEP tank fleet. The 4th Infantry Division will field the M1A2 SEP beginning in May 00 to 3/67 Armor. SGF B-kit components also complement M2A3 Bradley and the Long-Range Advanced Scout Surveillance System (LRAS3).
